My Blogging Journey

Statements such as "Nabasa ko yung blog mo, magaling ka pala magsulat" and "Ang ganda ng blog mo," are music to my ears. The readers' feedback keep me motivated to continuously write and share my entries. Sometimes, more than the likes and reactions to my post, it is the direct messages and inquiry that makes me really ecstatic. This is where I am most certain that I left a mark. But how did I ever came up with the idea of creating a blog and what are the steps I made to be able to develop my site? Let me give you an idea.

I started my blog last 2013. Although I am already on my fifth year, it was only last year that I tried to follow a routine of publishing entries on a monthly basis and not just when I felt like posting. I spent my first three years contemplating on my content and desperately finding for inspiration or big events in my life that would serve as topics for my entries. Remember the time when we used to think that we are in a "gain more likes and more comments so that it will be the talk of the town" game? That's it.

So going back, how was I able to put this all up?

First, I signed up for an account in Blogger. It is one of the platforms where you can create a site for free. You can also opt to use WordPress since their designs and layouts are also good judging from similar blog sites I visit.

Second, publish several entries. Because this will be beneficial to the next steps. You will not be able to monetize your site if you don't have enough write-ups. Make sure to use a handful of words and not just photos.

Third, buy a domain. I bought mine in GoDaddy because at the time that I am researching, it is the most recommended site. If you are a first time buyer, they have a discounted package for two years. I think it costed me less than a thousand Pesos. Actual price will apply starting the third year of using the domain. Once you have bought your domain, you will have to copy and paste the HTML code in your blog site. That's it, no additional coding needed, don't worry. But if your platform is in WordPress, you may purchase your domain directly with them.

Fourth, monetize your blog site. Whether you want to be a full time blogger or you just want to share a few things to your friends, monetizing can be a good option. Sayang din ang article views! That is why I am more ecstatic to those who personally send a message, inquiry or comment because they really took time to open the link and read the entire article. And I think that is one of the aspects in monetizing. Wag kayo mag-sawang magbasa dahil lang ang daming lumalabas na Ads. 😆 I signed up for Google Adsense which meant you have to have a Google account to be able to register. You have to input the URL of your site in your Adsense account so that they can track the advertisement clicks.

Quite easy, huh? It is. More so, if writing blogs is your passion. Before forcing yourself to think of a niche or a main theme of your blog, just pick up a pen and notebook or your laptops and begin to create an entry. Eventually, this may lead you to the path you really want to take. As for me, after 44 entries, I still consider this as the beginning of my mini project. I don't want to stop here. I want to attend writing workshops so that I can further improve my craft. I also want to look for other platforms where I can migrate my site to improve it aesthetically, although this might take some time because there are cost implications. Maybe if I start monetizing? Lastly, I'm already in the process of thinking the general purpose of my site and the target viewers. Other than helping me grow, I will do this for you, my readers; so that you may not be bored and you'll find more time to browse my posts.
