Why do I have a support system?

No man is an island. In my honest opinion, I am not so much of a believer when others coin the term "loner." Maybe, just maybe, that person is not in his/her element when you see them but when they are at home, they should have their family or even childhood friends that they are comfortable being with. Of course, being depressed is a different situation at that.

I used to think that I am an extrovert. But recent results of my psychological tests reveal how much of an introvert I am. Not that I rely solely on these tests but I came to identify myself more with the reality of it too. I cannot get a conversation going with general acquaintances but unlike before, I do not stress myself anymore with it. I don't think I can be defined by how much rapport I am able to build with new people. Now, it's more of how much I am able to keep constant communication with the most important ones. It's true what they say that when you grow older, you would lose some and gain some friends but definitely your circle will be smaller and more intact. It's nice to make new friends but it's more heartwarming to keep in touch with those who've seen you grow since day 1. In addition to that, never conform to others so that you can join their cliques. If you are to be close to someone new, you have to have shared interests. We are at the age of established (or establishing) self-identity, don't let yourself change just to be "in." Just take note that work related relationships are different from personal ones.

It may vary from one person to another but for me, the presence of a support system is the next most important thing to basic necessities such as food and shelter or to one's well-being such as spiritual and emotional wellness. I consider my family and a few close friends as my support system. They are the people whom I immediately contact and share all the significant happenings in my life. I value their insights over matters I am unfamiliar with and I appreciate all their help on situations that I cannot deal with on my own.

I hope in our busy lives, we do not forget to ask them how they are doing. With all the technology we have at hand, it is not so hard to send a message or call to check on them. And some modes are free! After all, when the world we live in gets harsh and cruel, who else do we go home to for support?

My main support system
Have you missed out to check on some important people in your lives lately? Why not give them a buzz right now? =)
