"Para saan ang PLANNER mo?"

Happy New Year! As of this writing, today is Day 4 of 365. Are you still pushing through with your sticker collection? How about your year end evaluations? In all of it, don't forget to celebrate all your wins, big or small. It's still a win after all. You did great!

As for me, can I just share how happy I am for being a lot more organized with my life last year than before? I'm thinking, is it because I am getting old and it is mandatory to have a life vision? Or is it also correlated to the idea that I am planning not just for myself but for my husband too (and our future family)? Can it also be that all the training and workshops I attended related to time management and extraordinary productivity last 2018 are already paying off? Put your hands up if you're an OC and mega-planner like me! I thought I was already doing my best the year we prepared for our wedding, but no. You'll only keep on getting better through time.

What worked for me the past year?

You might say, "Sino ba itong taong 'to para magsabi kung paano magiging succcessful sa buhay?" Well, I am not a life nor a financial coach. I'm also not here to boast all the goals "I" personally or "WE" as a married couple were able to achieve but rather inspire you that all of us are capable of making and accomplishing our goals. Come to think of it, I'm just an ordinary person but I was able to tick off my goals, so hear me out when I say that YOU ARE ALSO COMPETENT to do just the same or even better! Enough of the drama, self-pity and hard-hitting statements such as "I don't have resources," and "I'm not skilled to do this and that." All we really need to do is set a clear plan towards our goals. This is also to give emphasis that the path to get that precious gold (your goal) does not always entail rocket science intellect but rather behavioral. Which is most often than not, harder than the technical aspect of it.

WRITE

Not just the literal meaning of writing with pen and paper, but can also be typing your goals on your phone's notes or any other medium that you are comfortable with. Remember what I said earlier to have a clear plan? How are you going accomplish your goals if you are dependent to your mind alone? Saying it out aloud or talking about it with a family or friend - you will definitely forget it after a few days.

Yesterday, I was busy summarizing all our expenses for 2018. I noted that although there are negative variances (it's not something to be proud of entirely, yeah) and that I probably should be regretting all unnecessary expenditures, I am also feeling ecstatic. Because despite it, the husband and I were able to crossed out almost all our goals for 2018. And that's when I came to the realization that the most important thing I did was I wrote it all down. I documented it. I tracked down the day to day expenses, allocated the budget for every expense category and identified what needs to be purchased. It is your guide. The moment you feel like you're getting off track, read your notes again and recall why you're doing what you're doing. The following year, this will also serve as your basis for evaluation. You will be happy to see how far organized you've become. See where writing will take you? Start putting those hard earned planners to good use. 😄

WORK

Work your way to attain your aspirations. After writing it down, ask yourself what steps should you take in order for you to reach your destination? If you wrote down, "buy a car," what will you do to make more money so you can finance it? Do you need to look for a part time job, to cut down your expenses to minimum, to find your long lost godfather for a possible sponsorship or to postpone it for now until you've earned enough? Write down all strategies and ideas you can think of. I haven't really read anything that mentions a proper format in composing it. Put it in a manner that you are comfortable with even if it's only you who can comprehend. At the end of the day, it's your goal and only your understanding of it matters.

WILLPOWER

Have you observed the trend that more people are usually driven and inspired every start of the year but towards the half it seems like their energy decreases and almost dies down? Take for example gym membership. A lot of people sign up every January as part of their New Year's resolution but lessens after summer. Of course I know this idea because I am guilty of it too! After my birthday (June), I tend to relax, sit back and go where the tides take me not until November where I realize I only have two months left to obtain my goals. As a proof, I registered in mutual fund and insurance investments on the months of November and October respectively. Talk about that I-need-to-do-it-or-else-I'm-a-failure call. Having the willpower to sustain the energy all throughout the year is a must. Yes, we can get tired. And yes, we all need a day for doing nothing. But on the rest of the days, we should hustle - not just with working through our goals but also with overcoming sluggishness and inactivity.

If you're reading up to here, thank you. I am deeply touched. 💗 It got this long but the bottomline is, and I will reiterate, gamitin natin ang bagong planner natin. I am a believer that we should all be successful in achieving our goals so that no one will be busy being envious of others. Happy lang dapat lahat. Don't worry if you fall short on your goals. Every brand new day is an opportunity to do better. Keep trying.

I pray and hope that 2019 will be your best year yet. 💞
