Amid My Silent Reverie

Today, as most workers celebrate “Labor Day” in the Philippines, I am officially welcoming my self as a new member of another organization. Others are enduring long lines on job fairs while I am already counting the days to my first salary to my new employer. It was not an easy path and decision but I have decided to move on by accepting their offer. It’s amazing how a simple decision from a choice of only two options: yes or no, can suddenly turn our worlds into anew. And of how you spend minutes, hours or even days contemplating and plotting a matrix of pros and cons just to make sure that you arrive to the best decision. But I learned that in whatever path you chose to select, you always have to make up to it whether it was the most appropriate or not.

I believe that photos are the best souvenirs when I go visit far away places. So I always make sure to take lots of it. I already posted almost all of the photos at my Facebook account but I saved my most favorite ones for a blog post. I was lucky to receive a Canon SX230 PowerShot from my uncle and his wife. Joining the list of my "places to be" in the North Luzon area just the past two weekends is Subic. It is roughly 3 hours away from the Metro (plus two if you're traveling past the rush hour which is 7PM, just like what we did Thursday night). We went there through a private vehicle because we thought that it would be an easier and much accessible mode of transportation to the locations we want to visit in the area. I should just warn you, Subic is very strict on their traffic regulations. There are many "Stop" signs everywhere, where you should cease for 3-5 seconds regardless if there are pedestrians or vehicles that will cross. Furthermore, "first stop, first to go" on intersections is also being observed. The hotel we chose is Subic Park Hotel. I'm getting old in here. I've been in this community (and in this work) for almost three years now. Fairly young compared to other tenured employees but I know I'm getting older in this place. You want to know how I knew? Business establishments closing here and there, some undergo reorganizing, top management retiring so same process of introducing myself, the company and the project once again. It's not that hard, I have acquainted myself in talking to numerous people endlessly. It's basically what I do for a living, actually. I don't know if aging in here and in this line of work is positive or negative for my career. But I have come to think things over a gazillion times on where my niche is. As of the moment, I know what path to take. And I know sooner or later, I would have to say goodbye in this familiar place, my comfort zone. Someday, I will have to push my wings wide open and fly on my own. When that time comes, I'll miss walking in the streets...

I've been in a long distance relationship for eight months now and I must say it really is a hard work. Although we've seen each other for four days when I visited him together with my friends last June, the thought of being with your partner as and when you need him is I guess the biggest challenge and the one I miss the most. Maybe you can still work it out by not seeing him in days or weeks but if it started counting to 4, 8 and eventually 12 months, do you think you could still shrug off and disregard the longing and sadness of being apart? I define long distance relationships as those couples who are not readily available to go out on spontaneous dates, aren't able to celebrate monthsaries, anniversaries, birthdays, and basically all the holidays together. Back when I was in Third Year High, I entered the school's choir named, "Koro Rosario." Thanks to my best friend who encouraged me to join even though she left the group early. Two years of singing not just on school programs but also during masses, a wedding and of course on competitions. I remember that one of the highlights of my stay there is performing on our own concert. Up until now I still sing my favorite pieces including: Minsan lang Kitang Iibigin  and Limang Dipang Tao.  It was a part of my life that I will never get tired being proud of.
