The Beginning of a New Chapter

Image
I feel like I'm an old person trying to fit in my new body. You know how we are adjusting when writing 2018 in our notes or diary last January because we are so used in using 2017? That kind of confusion and newness. It's not unpleasant, it's just that being married involves an every day process of adjustment. Staying in another place other than our house was not a new concept to me. Way back in college, I spent four years in a dorm, going home only on weekends. During my practicum, we stayed in our host community for two straight months. But these experiences are nothing compared to the reality that I will not see my family every single day like what I was used to. I don't know how others are coping with it. But in my case, there are still days where I am skeptical of my roles. I'm stuck thinking of what needs to be done, what is expected of me and what I wanted to do. I honestly miss the days when I can spend my entire weekends watching Korean dramas, or ...

Wedding Insider: Practical tips for the practical brides and grooms

Image
Now, we've come to the end. This has been the best adventure that my husband and I undertook to date. So even if I'm a bit sad, this is probably my last entry for the blog series "Wedding Insider."  But looking at the brighter side, it is an opportunity to write other interesting topics in the future. That being said, let us end this on a high note. To date, we already know: 1.  What we did right after engagement 2.  How we tend to lose track on keeping up with our friends (and why it's normal)  3.  How we arrived at the FINAL FINAL PLAN , and 4.  What were the details of our "Big Day" You can click on each of the specific topics to read on the articles I previously posted.

Wedding Insider: Our own version of a perfect wedding

All weddings are perfect for every newlyweds. By the term "perfect" I meant that the bride and the groom brainstormed together to plan it, spent a couple of their weekends scouting inexpensive supplier options instead of resting and chose to dump date nights just to save money. Most importantly, if it felt like it's the happiest day of their lives, then I consider it as the epitome of perfectness. What was your perfect wedding like?

Wedding Insider: Can we really get married in the Church with a limited budget?

Image
The good news is - YES! Just like what I said in my previous blog , you just have to decide and work on the budget that suits you. The fiancé and I came from a Catholic household so it was somewhat an expectation that we get married at the church. Admittedly, at first, we opted to do civil rites because we said we only had less than a hundred thousand to spare. Through time, and when he finally popped the question "formally," I started looking for suppliers. Here's how our plans evolved: Which would you choose?

Wedding Insider: I think I'm losing my friends

I was browsing my Facebook memories when I happen to see the time where I went to Ilocos with one of my closest friends. It led me to reflecting that we have known each other since we were in second year high school but when college came, just like with any other friends, we went our different ways. It was only last 2012 that we started "rekindling" our dormant friendship. Despite meeting her after a long time, there were no feelings of indifference. It really felt like we only saw each other yesterday. Still close as ever. Mending a broken heart is a great excuse in seeing your friends and being closer with them MORE than before. I am one lucky girl to have friends who are like this even if we don't talk and see each other often.

What's next after saying "YES?"

Preparing for a wedding is not a walk in the park. Stress and panic does not choose who or when it will visit and it is not particular on whether your celebration is an extravagant or a simple one. To set the expectations right, even if you are the most obsessive compulsive person out there, you will still experience wedding jitters brought about by the hodgepodge of varied and unexplainable emotions. But if at the end of each passing day, you can look at your partner and tell him that he's still the one despite and regardless of the emotional roller-coaster ride, then by all means, hold on to him/her and go on with the preps!
